Lasik Services

Brar Eye Hospital is pioneer in the field of laser vision correction procedures (LASIK). In fact we were the very First Eye Hospital in Malwa to start LASIK LASER for removal of glasses .We offer a wide range of refractive solutions to cater to every individual’s need:

Optilasik or wavefront guided LASIK: Tailor-made to correct the individual aberrations of each eye

Surface ablation or Epi-LASIK: An option for cases with thin corneas not suitable for conventional LASIK

Phakic Intraocular Lenses: Offering hope for thin corneas and cases with a very high power of glasses

Bioptics: A combination of more than one procedure to correct extreme degrees of refractive error

Your eye specialist will put you through a comprehensive eye examination to assess your eyes & help you decide which option suits you the best.

LASIK or Laser in situ Keratomileusis reshapes the cornea by using a laser beam to alter its curvature. It corrects vision by altering the refractive power of the eye by producing a calculated change in the curvature of the cornea. The image of the outside world in now focused sharply on the retina.

The procedure is relatively simple and comfortable. Eyes of the patient are made numb by instilling anesthetic eye drops. Using an instrument called microkeratome a thin flap of corneal tissue is raised. The excimer Laser then reshapes the cornea by removing a predetermined precise amount of tissue from inner cornea. The corneal flap is then repositioned back where it bonds without the need of stitches.

Surface ablation procedures have come up with hope to those who show up in clinics requesting for LASIK treatment and turned away — mostly due to thin corneas, dry eyes or very high myopia. While such patients could turn back to their trusted glasses and contact lenses, there is now a new correction system for them that is EPILASIK.

This new generation vision correction surgery uses a blunt blade to cleave or push away a thinner corneal flap to leave behind more residual corneal thickness that gives more strength and stability of the cornea. It is, therefore, a better treatment for eyes having high power, thin corneas and dry eye problems.

Here’s how it works:

  • During Epilasik the eye is numbed using anesthetic eye drops and eyelid holder placed to prevent blinking.
  • A dissecting instrument called an epikeratome is used to slice off a thin layer of the cornea about 10 percent of corneal thickness.
  • Computer controlled laser is then applied to reshape the cornea.
  • Finally the epithelial flap is rolled back to its original position (the flap may also be discarded) and a bandage contact lens is applied for 3-5 days

What are the benefits of laser vision correction (LASIK)?

Laser vision correction method (LASIK) and PRK The modern alternatives method to glass or contact lenses. the goal of laser vision correction is to reduce or eliminate your dependence on contact lenses and glasses.
LASIK and PRK surgery may reduce nearsightedness, farsightedness and Astigmatism, there fore reducing your need of contracts or glasses.

PROCEDURE

A detailed eye check up is essential prior or treatment.
Contacts lens wearers are advised to discontinue lenses 10 days prior to detailed evolution.

PRK(Photorefractive Keratectomy)

Excimer Laser is delivered to superficial layers of cornea and they are thus removed (ablated). Depending upon the amount of refractive error i.e. spectacle, amount of corneal surface cells to be reshaped is determined.

LASIK(Laser Insitu Keratomielusis)

A superficial flap of cornea is lifted with and instrument called Microkeratome. Then whin 60 seconds U/V light and energy pulses from excimer laser precisely sculpt (reshape) the corneal bed .By adjusting the pattern of laser beam, it is possible to correct high . levels of near sightedness (myopia) and moderate levels of far sightedness (hypermetropia) and astigmatism.Afetr the corneal bed is reshaped the flap of cornea is replaced in its original position.

LASIK CONSULTATION

In this straightforward exercise in getting you prepared, our qualified and experienced paramedical staff will put your mind at ease. Your pre-operative examination at Brar Eye Hospital will include:

This meticulous and thorough process is crucial in determining your suitability and safety for LASIK.

Please also remember these pointers:

DAY OF LASIK SURGERY

You are only human, so ‘it’s not uncommon to feel anxious about your surgery. On your arrival at the Brar Eye Hospital every effort will be made to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our nursing staff will then familiarize you with the procedure.

The whole process from registration to surgery and final discharge takes approximately 3 hours. Prior to this day, we will furnish you with a list of do’s and don’ts

Please do not wear soft contact lenses for 3 days and hard or rigid gas permeable contact lenses for 1 week prior to the surgery date.

On the day of the surgery, please:-

PRK or LASIK surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with no need for admission afterwards. You will be ushered to the preparation room in the laser suite.

PREOPERATIVE

You may be given a mild sedative or you may ask for one to help you relax. The nurse will then clean your eye and administer the anaesthetic eye drops to prepare you for the procedure. All the information required to correct your refractive error is uploded into the computer controlling the excimer laser to be used by the surgeon.

You will be positioned on a bed under the operating microscope where the procedure will take place. Throughout the procedure, your surgeon will be constantly talking to you, explaining every step so that you will know what to expect.

You might feel some discomfort and pressure on the eye but there will be no pain.
Both PRK and LASIK procedures are usually completed within 10 to 15 minutes for both eyes.

LASIK PROCESS – POST LASIK SURGERY CARE

After your surgery, every care is taken to make sure you are comfortable. Our nursing staff will be vigilant, attending to your needs. After your surgery is completed, eye drops will be administered to your eye and the eye will then be covered with a protective shield or goggle.

If you had LASIK surgery done, you will need to rest within the confines of the clinic for approximately 30 minutes. Your doctor will then check on your eye to ensure that the corneal flap is properly positioned before you leave the clinic.

Following your surgery remember these pointers:-

(Please wait 5 minutes between using the different eye drops)

It is normal for you to experience some discomfort and tearing but that usually diminishes with the first day. Your doctor will want to examine your eye the next day after your procedure. You may then be able to return to work.

It is imperative on your part to keep all scheduled appointments and to use the eye drops as instructed in order to reduce the chances of any postoperative complication from occurring. The refractive power of your treated eye and your vision may vary for the first few weeks as part of the normal healing process. Your vision should progressively improve as your eye heals and stable vision is usually attained within the first 3 months. Once your vision is stable, the treatment is permanent.

Am I a candidate for LASIK?

If you are 18 or above, dissatisfied with your glasses or contact lenses and wish to get rid of them because of occupational or life style reasons, and meet certain visual and medical criteria, you are a candidate for LASIK. However, an examination by our LASIK experts can evaluate whether or not you are medically suited for LASIK.

What is Customised or LASIK?

This is a special form of LASIK in which the treatment parameters are customised for the particular patient, based not only on the refractive error, but also on the corneal map of the eye and other findings detected by special tests. This procedure tries to correct aberrations, maintains normal shape of the cornea and gives better night vision.

What is wavefront and how does wavefront LASIK work?

Light falling on the cornea [the front surface of the eye] has a smooth curvature- referred to as a "wavefront". As this smooth wavefront shape courses through the various optics of the eye, ocular aberrations [imperfections] are induced. It results in an irregular wavefront curvature reaching the retinal surface, which degrades the retinal image quality. An aberration-free eye would result in a smooth wavefront image on the retinal surface.

Wavefront-guide /adopted/customized LASIK, also referred to as "customized ablation" or custom LASIK performs corrections based on individual wavefront measurements.

Current refractive procedures such as traditional or standard LASIK correct lower order aberrations such as spherical and cylindrical numbers alone. However, higher order aberrations affect the quality of vision and may not significantly affect the vision as read on the chart. It is these subtle deviations from the ideal optical system, which can be corrected by wavefront procedures, and thereby improve image quality.

Is this the latest technology?

The latest and most reliable procedure is wavefront-guided LASIK, a customized treatment for each eye. Wavefront procedures even often leave patients with eyesight better than normal.

What is Excimer laser?

Excimer laser is Ultra Violet (UV) light energy of wavelength 193 microns. This laser breaks the chemical bonds within the molecules (photoablation) with minimal thermal damage to the surrounding tissues. Thus it is very precise and can remodel the cornea with an accuracy of more than a thousandth of a millimeter.

How does Excimer laser correct the refractive error?

The effect of excimer laser on the cornea is very similar to grinding of a glass lens to change its refractive power. In eyes with refractive errors, excimer laser because of its high level of precision, can change the shape of the cornea to change its refractive power to the desired state and thus correcting the refractive error.

What is Q value guided treatment?

This is another way of customized treatment which is based on corneal mapping.Peripheral ophelizone is given a particular shape to reduce spherical and other aberration so as to enhance dim light vision & contrast sensitivity and reduce glare.

How safe and successful Lasik is?

Yes. LASIK is completely safe. New generation Excimer lasers and advances in technique offer the highest degree of accuracy and utmost safety. Recent studies conducted internationally show it to be a very safe and effective procedure.

LASIK is a permanent treatment. Millions of patients worldwide have had an Excimer laser refractive procedure done on them successfully. During your consultation we will give you an idea of the procedure and the level of vision you can expect.

Will I experience pain during the procedure?

No. There is no pain during the procedure. There may be mild discomfort for a few hours after the procedure

What kind of laser do we use?

Our Hospital offers the best and the latest technology. The Laser we use is Allegrato Eye Q 400 Hz.

Why Should You Consider the Allegretto Wave?

Safety

Pulse Technology accurately controls the energy level and placement of every laser pulse, enabled by an active eye tracker that reads eye movement 200 times per second.

Quality of Vision

Wavefront-optimization customizes the treatment to each person's corneal curvature.

A flap of partial thickness of cornea shall be raised and you will see little hazy.Than the completely painless laser rays shall be fired on the cornea & than the flap shall be repositioned.

Performance

The Allegretto Wave is the fastest laser , treating one diopter of correction in only four seconds. In fact, the average total treatment time is just 10 seconds. Rapid treatment speed has been shown to increase predictability and reduce the incidence of complications
